Senate Passes Hash Oil Penalty Bill; Legislature Starts Summer Vacation; 7 Medical Cannabis Bills Await

Before leaving the Capitol, the Senate passed SB 212, which, if endorsed by the governor, would create new penalties and enhance existing penalties for manufacturing concentrates of cannabis using volatile solvents under certain circumstances.

Seven bills in the Legislature involve medical cannabis issues. Three bills — – AB 243, AB 266 and SB 643 –seek to regulate broad commercial medical cannabis activity.

Lawmakers return to Sacramento on Aug. 17. Bills that clear Appropriations Committees by Sept. 11 have until Oct. 11 to be signed or vetoed by Gov. Jerry Brown.
